    2. Dispute over new airport in South Korea. (elites vs. elites)

    3. There has been a dispute over building a new international airport in South Korea in nation’s southeastern region. The airport was one of President Lee’s presidential election pledge back in 2008. Rep. Park Geun-hye of the ruling Grand National Party was the rival of Lee at the presidential election in 2008. Park made a comment on this pledge negatively as President Lee said no to it. She said that they need a new airport in the southeastern area to urbanize that area. Park is a daughter of the late former President Park Chung-hee, and is particularly popular among residents of Daegu and North Gyeongsang Province. From this,
i can see that she is just blaming President Lee not to compete, but to get a great support from the people as she is considering for presidential election in 2012. It could be important to build a new airport in that area, however, elites shouldn’t be having a meaningless dispute over their prestige if it is never good for the others.
    ------------
4,Park’s remarks came amid growing discontent over the government’s cancellation of the project, which was a campaign pledge made by President Lee in the 2007 presidential election.

2.inequality in the competetion between small and big companies
3.the oppotunity is always for the people who prepare some thing.it is one saying for courage people to do some thing in advance, but does it really true or not?these days since the globalization has made the competion become more and more firece .as a result, the chance and the opppotunity sorting into differnt groups who have tha sdvantage in the comepetetion. it is the obvious that the big companies have a big advantage neally in every way for their development and grow.on the contrary ,the small companies may face viorious obstacles for their development.for instance ,the attration to the well educated workers ,the financial support, the credit degree by people, and the national policies, and so on.so we can see there is some inequality existing in it.though it is true that a lot of benefits have been brought by the global economy, there are some even more serious conditions the small companies have to deal with .maybe the government needs to take some measures to make sure the situation can changed to be better.the small companises are also indispensible for the socioty.
    ------------------
4.180 masters and Ph.D. recipients were dispatched to 131 small and medium-sized companies last year through this human resource support in technology program. This year, 100 more researchers will be dispatched in support. This year, 100 more researchers will be dispatched in support.

[Soundbite]Ahn Hyun-ho (V. Minister, Knowledge Economy Min.): “An outstanding workplace will be provided to small and medium-sized companies.”

But the problem is that their assignments are for three-year contracts. Smaller companies will likely suffer from a lack of employees with a higher-degree education after the contracts expire, which is why it appears that more fundamental measures will be needed.

    2. Wage gap between men and women.
    3. The research from the article says that Korea is at the bottom of the list of advanced countries, when it comes to the gap in income between men and women. The wage gap between men and women has been closed until 2008, but since then the gap has widened again. I guess it’s because of the financial crisis. Anyway this article still shows that women are still weaker then men.
There are employees who perceive women as less committed to their career than men, and are therefore less likely to invest in female career opportunities. One of the reasons for women to quit the job was pregnancy. To encourage birth rate, companies should provide women with better day care services so they will be able to work with less concern about child rearing.
    --------------------------------
    4. Despite numerous improvements in women's social status, Korea is at the bottom of the list of advanced countries when it comes to the gap in income between men and women. The report said sharing the burden of child rearing, which can be shown by more active use of "paternity" leave, is a key to narrowing the gap between men and women.
As long as women rather than men take time off work to provide care for children, there will always be employers who perceive women as less committed to their career than men, and are therefore less likely to invest in female career opportunities and depress female earnings as a whole," the report said. Promoting flexible workplace practices also can reduce the income gap, it added. Korean government officials said the income gap is big, as women quit jobs when they get pregnant, so work is under way to provide them with better day care services so they will be able to work with less concern about child rearing.

    2.about kept women
3.The meaning of kept women(in China, we call it“二奶”)
The original meaning of kept women is the women who have sex relation with the men who have married. Usually, there are four characteristics of kept women:
    1) the man has married
    2) the woman has not married
    3) they have relatively stable sex life
    4) the women`s life mainly depend on the men ,means that the men support his daily life.
Actually, as a social problem, kept women are becoming more and more serious especially in China. On one hand, now the gender ratio of China now is 116.9:100, some provinces even reach at 135:100. It means that many Chinese males can not marry to a woman under the policy of monogamy. On the other hand, owing to the traditional conception that boys are better than girls, the inequality of males and females, the development of people is concerned more by socialists. And some people even claims that we may change the policy that one woman can marry with two men. Yes, it seems ridiculous, but it also reflects some problems.

  5. 4. the background of kept women
In my mind, there are many reasons for this phenomenon, which can be listed as follows:
First of all, with the development of economics, the gap between the poor and the rich is becoming larger and larger, and it is a quick and efficient method for the women who want to change their life conditions. For these women, they may be beautiful, elegant, sexy and they don`t want to make effort to change their life, so they prefer to be a member of kept women. Fore these men, they may have some money, they may not satisfy with their marriage life, they may want to have another life to show that they are rich and charming and they have the qualification to the find a kept woman. so they choose this life and they enjoy the life.
Secondly, the imbalance between economic and society is also a problem, the conceptions of people are not improved as quick as the economics. Also, the traditional conscious of Chinese people are also lead an important role of the problems. Patriarchal exists a long time in China and it is accepted by common people. Although the society has changed a lot and the insurance career also develops a lot, the conception of raising children for old age also deep-roots in Chinese people`s minds. Therefore, they know it is against the law, but also raise the kept women to make baby. At the same time, having a kept woman is becoming a symbol of rich and capable and some people even take proud of it. How ugly it is!
What`s more, the law prescribes that having kept women is committing bigamy, but the punishment is not serious and in some location of China it seems be allowed silently by common people. As a result, some men even live together with his wife, who don`t have income and is adopted by her husband, and his kept women.
    5. The influence of kept women
When we talk about the influence of kept women, we may first think about the victims of the problems, the wife of the family. Yet, when you are not young and beautiful, there are somebody else take your place and tell you “why you don`t have ability to control your husband”, what`s the feeling? What can they do if they have children and they can not support their own life? How can they protect themselves using the arms of law?
Besides, we may condemn these ungrateful men and these not independent women. There is an old saying in China that “the men will become bad when they are rich”. Tentatively, we don`t say the correct or not of this sentence. However, the action of these men proved that they are not responsible for their wife and their families, their action should be condemned by the society. How about the kept women? Are they victims or objects that should be condemned? To some degree, I think they are also the weaken people who have to make live by selling their body. However, the main point is that they are not doing the right things! These women, who ruined others` marriage and family, satisfy their endless greedy desire, use their beautiful appearance to change the money, abandon their self-respect, self-love. As a consequence, they waste youth, they waste emotion, they waste endeavor, and they got nothing except money. How stupid they are?
Last but not the least, the phenomenon lead a very bad effect on the social values. It is bad for the development of human beings.
Therefore, we appeal to the return of social values and social ethics, we hope that the men can be responsible for his wife, his family and society, we hope that the kept women and the women who want to be a member of kept women can rein and make an effort to find themselves. Young women, please don`t abandon the precious self-esteem, making ourselves strong!

    2. No money, no life, no education, no bright future
    3. The article is about a student diagnosed with Spinal Muscular Atrophy graduating Yonsei University thanks to his mothers support. However, was his mother's support all that mattered? If he wasn't born in a wealthy family that not only have enough money for his health problems but also to donate thousands of dollars annually to Gangnam Severance Hospital in southern Seoul, he wouldn't have even got here. He wouldn't be one of the graduate students of very well known school which gives you a high reputation.
For example, a Mongolian dermatologist sold her house and came to Korea to let her little daughter go through a kidney surgery that will save her life. All she needs is just one surgery. It's a much better situation compared to what Lee Won-ok was diagnosed with. Yet, the Mongolian dermatologist is not even close to letting her daughter go through any surgery because she doesn't have enough financial support. It's just too much for her to pay for the hospital fees. If the daughter was born in a wealthy family like Lee, she would've already gone through the surgery and be looking forward to a bright future to come.
In these days, money is a crucial source that lets you become high class and on top of that save your life.
    ---------------------------------
4.For the last 21 years, Lee Won-ok brought her paralyzed son to school, picked him up after class, and even waited outside the classroom in case a medical emergency occurred.
For over two decades, Lee’s dedication to her son Shin Hyeong-jin’s education had no limits. Since doctors told Lee that they did not expect her son to see his second birthday, the pair have battled through a lot to overcome his limitations.
Now 27, Shin wrote his last exam on Dec. 20. He is set to graduate from Yonsei University with a computer science degree in February.
Shin was born with Spinal Muscular Atrophy (SMA).
*Lee and her husband donate thousands of dollars annually to Gangnam Severance Hospital in southern Seoul.

    2. Grim job prospects spark clash between old, new legal hiring systems
    (Elites vs Elites)

3.As we know a bar exam will be abolished in 2017.
After that Law school will be an alternative of it.
so there will be two groups of judges. One group is from the law school and the other one is the group of someone who passed the bar exam. Actually someone who pass that though test, don't want to be treated like the other group.
But the ministry of justice trying to make a new way of employment the prosecutors.
The ministry said all of the Top 10% of law school graduate can apply for the prosecutors employment.
So according to the government's announcement, the first priority of employment will be law school graduates.
This is the reason that the second group doesn't even attended to the admissions ceremony on March 2.
If I were the second group, I would have done exactly the same thing.
To make this problem settled, the government need to make quick and safe solution.
    ---------------------------------------------
    4. "If the government allows the law school deans to pick students, there is the possibility that standards will become arbitrary and the benefits could go to some students with good family backgrounds, which is not fair to all students," said Cho Young-gon, a new nominee for the judicial trainees' association. "The ministry's plan breaches the principle of hiring public servants according to their ability."

    2. Will Your Husband Change Diapers? Maybe Not
    3. I was very shocked when I read this article because I thought gender inequality was gone (not completely but anyways) and I thought that it would be an old thing in India too. Also, the harshness of the violence surprised me and made me feel very sad at the same time. The fact that the majority of Indian men think that women should tolerate violence in order to keep her family together is very absurd and it makes me really angry that a number of men still think in that old-fashioned and stupid way. I couldn’t believe that more than half of the Indian men think a woman deserves to be beaten sometimes. I was very frustrated with how one could think a person deserves to be beaten. Even though it cannot be perfectly symmetrical, I believe there should be equality in gender (in every single country). Maybe one gender can never be exactly equal to another gender and that is how humans are made, but I still think that all humans should have gender equality, at least. If it is impossible, I believe we should at least try because it is so unfair for those women who were born in India to get beat up by their husbands, who should be love of their lives. Beating up a person is very inhumane, whether it is a woman or a man.
    -------------------------------------
    4. ...Nevertheless, the findings, released in January, throw an important spotlight on the issues of gender inequality and present a gloomy picture of Indian men’s attitudes towards gender and sexual relations. ... “Even today women are taught to be subordinate to men, while boys who have witnessed violence on their mothers by their fathers grow up to believe that it is acceptable,” he said, adding that their organization plans to discuss the report with officials of India’s National Commission for Women. ... Mr. Moon said in his message for centenary year for International Women’s Day that women and girls “continue to endure unacceptable discrimination and violence, often at the hand of intimate partners or relatives.”

    2. SNU commercialization hits snag
    3. This article is about SNU which is most popular university in S.Korea.
The president of Seoul National University was locked in his office overnight on Friday by a group of students and employees of the school in protest against the government’s push to corporatize the state-run university.
Making the situation worse was the participation of members of the school’s faculty and of its students’ association in a campaign against the controversial plan, which is intended to give school management more rights to determine everything from salary of professors to tuition by liberating it from 65 years of state control
Under the new system, the school will be run by a board of directors that elects the president and includes people from outside the school. Professors and staffers will no longer be paid like civil servants, and will instead be paid under a separate annual salary system that includes performance-based pay.

All state and public property, such as the school’s buildings and land, will be handed over for free while government funding continues at similar levels. The university will also be free from government control to conduct commercial projects.

There has been a fierce backlash from politicians and other opponents who fear commercialization, higher tuition and damage to the public nature of education would be a result of the shift of the operation system that could hinder the transition process.

    4. If SNU will be corporatized the state-run university, polarization between students is more get worse. This happening based on many stratification conflict.

    2.Japan textbooks rekindle old disputes
3.This article makes me think about the importance of education. As you know, education is one of the factors and causes to split the social classes and to bring inequalities in this society. Although dokdo'clames by Korea and Japan is old issue, it has been continuing. From my thoughts, the president Roh Moo-Hyun is the most active person against dokdo'clames by japan. He made the advertising about arguing why the Dokdo is one of the korean islands and raise patriotism for the Dokdo. I think that if this issue would be not solved until further future, it can bring more big problems not in single country, but in couple of countries. Because the further different thoughts'gab about Dokdo can bring malicious sense between two countries and interrupt the peace of East Asia. Also I believe that the any future should be made by based on correct history.
4.According to this history, Korean experts are arguing that japanese information about dokdo and logic are weak and we have more correct information and data. However, I don't know what we have correct information and do doubt that do we make efforts to correct this problem. From my experiences and some articles, japan do it as possible as they can occupy the Dokdo by changing some information not just korea or Japan but even west countries. Considering world history, incorrect information and communication can cause misunderstanding and war and then it brought another conflict and inequality. So I want korea experts or governors do act not passive but more active against clames of dokdo by japan.

    3. In these days Libya sitiuation is the hottest issue in the world. It happend becasue of
dictatorship of president of Libya(Muammar Gaddafi ). To fight against the autocracy of government antigovernment act started to revolt. To cope with that governmnet tried inhuman way to repress it. By this reason NATO(The capital of North Atlantic Treaty Organization ) decided to help antigovermnet act to cope with Libya govenment's coercive movement. In this process NATO soldiers did mistake that they misplaced the bomb so rebel fighters are killed by that. NATO's original intent was to help them, but the result is reversed. If there was no social conflict in Libyathere must be no accident like that. Also even though the nations which participate in NATO's intent is outwardly pure, this actions are kind of power fighting and cause list of countries by their power.

    4. BENGHAZI, Libya (AP) ― A NATO airstrike intended to thwart Moammar Gadhafi’s forces killed 13 rebel fighters in eastern Libya instead, the opposition said Saturday, but they described it as an “unfortunate accident” and stressed it did not diminish their support for the international air campaign.
The rebels’ response to the attack ― blaming it on a mistake within their ranks ― highlighted their heavy dependence on the international air campaign as they face the superior military power of the longtime Libyan leader. The misfire also showed the challenges the coalition faces in identifying targets without coordination with forces on the ground.
